The 2 types of Diabetes

The 2 types of Diabetes

There are two types of diabetes type 1 and type 2. Both of them are serious.
But type 1 is more serious there is no doubt about that. When it is detected, the patients are quite sick. They have to come into the hospital and get admitted immediately. Type 1 diabetes is only around 5 % of the total. It generally starts in children and is not the type of diabetes which we generally see. Type 1 diabetes is generally juvenile diabetic or insulin dependent diabetes . It has nothing to do with life style or genetics.  we still don't understand why it happens but the body destroys the pancreas. The person will not have insulin in the body. They need insulin for survival and without it they will not be able to live.

Type 2 diabetes is the one which we usually understand and around 95 % of diabetes is type 2. It is more frequently detected and if detected early, the person can live an almost normal life.

Why should we treat Diabetes?

Why should we treat Diabetes?

We should treat Diabetes because of the sheer prevalence of this disease. In the USA alone there are around 29 million people who have this disease. And the worst part? Many of them were not aware of the fact that had it. Around 20 % of the population in the gulf countries is diabetic. In India the % of diabetics is around 8 to 10. In the developed countries it is probably a little less. In UK and America it is around 3 or 5 %.

Some of the statistics will say that diabetes is one of the leading causes of blindness in the world.
It is one of the leading cause of kidney failure in the world and also one of the leading causes of legs being amputated. Since it is also one of the leading causes of heart attacks in the world we should be treating and diagnosing diabetes.

Some more signs to watch out for if you think you have this disease:-

  • Frequent urination.
  • Excessive thirst.
  • Increased hunger.
  • Weight loss.
  • Tiredness.
  • Lack of interest and concentration.
  • A tingling sensation or numbness in the hands or feet.
  • Blurred vision.

Did you know that many diseases, if found early can be treated to some extent?

There have been many cases where people could have been treated but were not. The unavailability of proper education led to their early demise. Think about it. Isn't this a terrifying prospect?

What about Diabetes?
Everyone knows that a cure has not yet been found. But treated early, it can be managed. The age of it's onset is youth. But in most cases, diabetes goes undiagnosed and hence untreated.

But how can it be managed in places like school or offices?
Well, there is something called Glucagon. It is a life saving, injectable hormone that raises blood sugar levels by stimulating the liver. Te best part is that it cannot be overdosed.

SO WHAT CAN YOU DO?
If you suspect someone has diabetes, act fast. Take him/her to a doctor. If diagnosed early, there still may be a change to act before it's too late.

Let's strive towards a better future. Hope is something that is always there, no matter what. The only challenge is finding it.

Diabetes

Diabetes is a disease that is widely prevalent around the world. One of the more known types is 'Diabetes Mellitus.'

Well, what about a simple definition?

Diabetes mellitus is a group of diseases that affect the body's glucose level. Generally, it means that you have an excess of glucose in your blood.

Why is it bad?
See the symptoms? It's not only bad, it means that a person with diabetes loses his/her main source of energy.
The person is always tired, hungry and thirsty. It may also lead to DEATH.

But the worst part is that there is NO CURE as of yet.
Awareness is the key to cure. When more people know about this fatal disease, the cure will be generated faster.

It is not always possible to fight a disease, but you must always believe in a brighter future and carry on, no matter what.
This blog was started so more people become aware of the various diseases that affect us and how to live and not give up.

I hope this serves as a repository of information and a second chance at life.
